A Message from the Chair:
It’s a good time to be a Republican! I know, you won’t hear many
people saying that today, but you will at the Tompkins County GOP.
There’s no question that the Republican Party nationally is struggling,
with only a third of the American people in poll after poll approving of
President Bush’s job performance. So why is it a good time to be in the
GOP?

Lansing, Saturday,
June 7th-
The Tompkins County
GOP endorsed candidates for the New York Senate and for the United
State Congress this morning and approved a new platform for the
party.
The committee endorsed

to offer,” said Mike Sigler, chairman of the Tompkins County GOP.

John McCain Fact Sheet |
|
From The ITHACA JOURNAL 2 APRIL 2008,
Mike Sigler
A lot of hay has been made over an
offhand remark by John McCain that economics was not his strongest
suit. That would carry some weight with me if Democrats Sen. Hillary
Clinton or Sen. Barack Obama were well versed in economic policy,
but they're not. So it's curious that they're making it a talking
point in their campaigns. Just from their positions and votes, I
hope it's clear to everyone that McCain has a better grasp of
economics than his opponents.

Budget
Responsibility
I was concerned about my party, the GOP, when after 12 years of
controlling both houses of Congress the nation failed to see budget cuts
and what appeared to be uncontrolled spending at the federal level. It’s
hard to claim the mantle of fiscal conservatism when your own members of
congress give up on the principle. Now the democrats are wiping away my
concerns although it’s at the expense of the nation’s solvency.

"On Health Care"
from
Ithaca Journal
submitted article
County Legislator Mike Sigler refutes the position of single payer
health taken by Legislature Chair Tim Joseph:
Mr.
Sigler’s comments reflect his individual views on health system reform
and not the position of the County Legislature.
Healthcare coverage for all is certainly a goal that everyone should
aspire to, but the idea of ripping down the current system and
nationalizing one seventh of the US economy is, in my mind, the wrong
way to go.

Republicans Face a Changing Lansing
Dan Veaner
Stereotypically the Democrats own Tompkins County. But the reality is
that it is geographically split with much of Lansing and Dryden, all of
Groton, part of Caroline, and most of Newfield favoring Republicans.
Even so, the Democrats have 43.8% of registered voters in the county as
compared with 28.7% Republicans. ns. ns. ns. ns. ns.
