Larry Nivison will be running for the Tompkins County Legislature in a special election scheduled for April 22nd, The Tompkins County GOP announced today.  “We’re very happy that Larry has decided to take on this challenge again.  We were proud of the campaign he ran for the seat two years ago, and it shows a lot of character and commitment to try again,” said Mike Sigler, chairman of the Tompkins County GOP.   “Larry has life long ties the county and would be a thoughtful and positive presence on the legislature.”

Nivison is a retired FBI agent and Naval officer.   He receive 391 votes in his first campaign for the County Legislature, as much as a quarter of them from non-republicans.  “Almost 40 percent of the vote went to Larry in 2005.  I hope we can build on that and get him over the 50 percent mark,” said Sigler.

Nivison said, "I'm grateful for this opportunity to run for a position on the County Legislature again.  My concerns are as they were when I ran in in 2005, excess spending, lack of representation in the Legistature of many voices in this community, accountability of the Legislature with regards to evaluating and prioritize programs, and a need for change in what seems to be a rubber stamp legistature."

Nivison also asked for and received the endorsement of the Independence Party.  He's accepted their offer and will also appear on their line on the April 22nd ballot.
